Announcement about the trees on our santralistanbul Campus

Dear Students,

We would like to share with you an important announcement regarding the trees on our santralistanbul Campus, with which we breathe, under whose shade we rest, and around which we have gathered memories over the years.

A total of 633 trees on our campus were evaluated in detail by Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry based on scientific criteria. According to the resulting report, 74 of our trees—one of which is a monumental tree—have been identified as posing a serious risk to life and property due to their health conditions. In addition, 150 trees have been found to require extensive care.

Following this report and in line with the decision taken by the relevant regional commission for the protection of natural assets under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, we regret to inform you that, in order to ensure the safety of you, our staff, and all campus visitors, we must part with some of our trees.

Please know that we view our trees not merely as part of the landscape, but as living members of our campus, silent witnesses to our university’s shared memory, and valued neighbors that we coexist with. For this reason, every step taken will be carried out with the utmost sensitivity, care, and transparency.

The measures to be applied should not be seen as an “end” for our campus’s green fabric, but rather as part of a necessary care and renewal process within the life cycle. With this understanding and your valuable participation, we are continuing our work on species selection, planting areas, and timing for planting new saplings on our campus.

We will share the dates of the upcoming applications with you separately and will continue to keep you regularly informed at every stage of this process. You can always share your opinions, contributions, and questions with us via BİLGİ Ticket (ticket@bilgi.edu.tr)

You can find the details of the report prepared by Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry in the attachment. In accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law, the names of individuals mentioned in the report have not been shared.

Thank you for your understanding and sensitivity.
