BİLGİ Law students took second place in Turkey in the “2nd Future Arbitration Lawyer Competition”.

47 teams formed by 282 students from 18 universities competed in the "2nd Future Arbitration Lawyer Competition" organized by the Young ISTAC (Istanbul Arbitration Center) platform at İstanbul Bilgi University's santralistanbul Campus on 28-29 April 2018.

The first prize went to İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, followed by İstanbul Bilgi University and Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, who received the second and third prizes, respectively.
The mock case designed for the 2nd Future Arbitration Lawyer Competition was announced on 9 November 2017, kicking off the competition process. University teams submitted their claimant’s memorandum on 1 February 2018, and their reply briefs on 15 March 2018, just as in a real arbitration process. At the end of the 6-month competition, the students took the stage on 28 and 29 April, and the most successful teams in mock hearings were awarded.
Atty. Sabiha Tekin, General Secretary of the Turkish Bar Association, Atty. Altan Akpınar, President of the Çorum Bar Association, Prof. Yeşim Atamer, Atty. Muhammet Aksan, Member of the General Assembly of ISTAC, Atty. Rıfat Bacanlı, Member of the Board of Directors of ISTAC, Prof. Emre Gökyayla, Assoc. Prof. Cemile Demir Gökyayla, member of the National Council of ISTAC, Assoc. Prof. Necla Öztürk, Dr. Candan Yasan Tepetaş and Atty. Eda Cerrahoğlu Balssen acted as arbitrators in the mock hearings attended by 47 teams. The top eight teams in the competition, which was built around the settlement of a commercial dispute under ISTAC Arbitration Rules, competed in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals on Sunday, 29 April. The teams of İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University and İstanbul Bilgi University competed in the final hearing. The future lawyers worked hard to win the competition in the presence of Prof. Metin Feyzioğlu, President of the Turkish Bar Association, Prof. Ziya Akıncı, President of ISTAC, and Atty. Dr. İsmail Esin, who served as arbitrators in the final hearing.
