Prof. Turgut Tarhanlı from BİLGİ Faculty of Law receives the Academic Honor Award at the 15th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival

The award recipients of the 15th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival, which will take place from November 27 to December 2 this year, have been announced. Prof. Turgut Tarhanlı, faculty member at BİLGİ Faculty of Law and Director of the Human Rights Law Research Center, has received the Academic Honor Award.

Organized under the presidency of Prof. Adem Sözüer and the directorship of Prof. Bengi Semerci, with Alin Taşçıyan serving as program director, the festival brings together films that explore the theme of justice every year. The film screenings are accompanied by an academic program and VisionIst events, which capture the pulse of current issues inspired by the film selection. The festival creates a broad scholarly discussion platform with experts from the fields of cinema, law, psychology, sociology, and political science, as well as civil society organizations. This year’s International Academic Program focuses on the theme of “Right to Life.”

Alongside Prof. Turgut Tarhanlı, who received the Academic Honor Award, actress Rüçhan Çalışkur and director Wang Xiaoshuai were granted the Cinema Honor Award; cinematographer Yorgos Arvanitis and the International Labor Film Festival received the Contribution to Cinema Award; and Gazan filmmaker Rashid Mashrawi was honored with the Champion of Justice Award.
