The project ‘Irony Detection in Turkish Texts’ developed by BİLGİ Department of Computer Engineering students Yunus Emre Şimşek, Tarık Emre Talay, and Pelin Kaya under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Dalyan was entitled to be supported within the scope of 2209-A Research Project Support Programme for Undergraduate Students conducted by TÜBİTAK Science Fellowships and Grant Programme Directorate (BİDEB).
The project aims to improve the performance of language understanding systems and minimize misunderstandings in communication. It focuses on the fields of natural language processing and social media analytics, aiming to compare them with learning algorithms, particularly by using large language models to detect irony in Turkish texts.
The irony detection model to be proposed as a result of the project is expected to provide benefits in areas such as automatic text classification and especially social media communication. It is also expected that advances in irony detection will provide a deeper understanding in terms of the complexity of language and analysis of cultural interactions.
