Review of Economic Design Young Scholar Prize established in memory of our alumnus Nedim Okan has been awarded
Established in memory of our University’s M.Sc. Program in Economics alumnus Nedim Okan, who passed away in 2021, with the collaboration of BİLGİ Murat Sertel Center for Advanced Economic Studies, Review of Economic Design, and Society for Economic Design, Review of Economic Design Nedim Okan Young Scholar Prize has been awarded.
Nedim Okan Prize reviews the papers of graduate students or scholars who received a Ph.D. degree at most five calendar years published in Review of Economic Design, one of the most prestigious academic journals across the world in the field of economic design. Papers are evaluated by a jury of three people, one from each of Murat Sertel Center for Advanced Economic Studies, Review of Economic Design, Society for Economic Design.
The prize is biennial and the first prize has been awarded to Zhuoqiong Chen from Harbin Institute of Technology and Hiroto Sato from Tokyo University. The prize ceremony took place in 13th Conference on Economic Design organized in University of Girona in Spain on June 15-17, 2023 with the participation of İstanbul Bilgi University Board of Trustees Vice President Prof. Remzi Sanver and Murat Sertel Center for Advanced Economic Studies Director Prof. Ayça Ebru Giritligil, who was also the jury chair of the prize this year.
About Nedim Okan
Nedim Okan received his BA in Economics at Sabancı University. As a graduate student at the M.Sc. Program in Economics, İstanbul Bilgi University, he became a member of the research team at BİLGİ Economics Lab of İstanbul (BELİS) within Murat Sertel Center for Advanced Economic Studies. In his thesis, he experimentally investigated the effects of asymmetric law enforcement on individual behavior in a repeated public good game. In Fall 2019, he became a PhD student at Berlin School of Economics. After successfully completing his coursework at the DIW Graduate Center, he joined the WZB for his research phase. Nedim Okan passed away on May 24, 2021.
