8th İstanbul Meeting for Freedom of Expression
Date: June 9, 2012
Time: 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Place: Dolapdere Campus, BS-2
8th Gathering is once again at İstanbul Bilgi University. Due to lack of funds, the international guests’ finances are not met. Even though this limits our hosting the international participants, the event still preserves its international character.
International PEN vice president Eugene Schoulgin, IPA representative William Nygaard, Human Rights Watch Turkey reporter Emma Sinclair Webb and Amnesty International Turkey reporter Andrew Gardner will address their statements to the audiance.
An international petition was open to institutional signatures and over 30 signatures came already. We will declare the results at the opening session. And in addition to that, we have "Internet guests" at the end of the day (around 17:00 – 17:30) 10 prominent names from 5 continents will be contacted on live visual conference calls. Among them are Prof. Noam Chomsky, authors Jone Coetzee, John Berger, Paul Auster, Mexican journalist Lydia Cacho and film maker, writer and activist Tariq Ali from Pakistan.
