Seminar: Effect on Networks on Scientific Human Capital

Abstract: A collection of studies highlights the important, yet understudied, impact of networks on scientific human capital. The seminar will discuss the results from a three-part study unraveling the network effects on location selection of foreign doctoral students, and a study exploring the effects of networks and mentoring on women’s participation into science and technology.

Zeynep Esra Tanyıldız, graduated from Middle East Technical University with a B.A. in city and regional planning, and M.A. in urban policy planning. She obtained a joint doctoral public policy degree from Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology. She specializes in science and technology policy. Her recent research focuses on scientific human capital with special emphasis on mobility of researchers. Esra published articles in international journals on mobility of foreign students and women’s participation in science and technology. Currently she is conducting a national research on brain return at Economic Research Policy Foundation of Turkey.
