Assoc. Prof. Yiğit Dağhan Gökdel’s innovative respiratory measurement device project receives TÜBİTAK funding
The project titled “Design and Prototyping of an Innovative Optical-Based Spirometer Produced with a 3D Printer for Monitoring Respiratory Diseases,” led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yiğit Dağhan Gökdel, faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1005 – National New Ideas and Products Research Support Program.
The project aims to develop a low-cost, portable version of the spirometer, a device used to assess lung function, suitable for point-of-care use. The device body will be manufactured using additive manufacturing technology, respiratory measurement will be performed optically, and all patient-contact parts will be designed as single-use. In this way, the project aims to measure key respiratory parameters such as FEV₁, FVC and PEF with high precision, enabling respiratory diseases to be monitored safely in the home environment as well.
