Study Mobility

You do not have to own a passport when you are applying for the Erasmus+ program. 

However, if you do not obtain a Turkish citizenship, you must have a passport that is long enough to cover the planned exchange duration + 6 months more from the end date. Non- Turkish citizen students also must extend their Turkish residence permit until their exchange end date to make sure that they can enter Turkey without any problems after they complete the Erasmus+ exchange period.

Turkish citizen students will need to apply for a passport or need to extend the validity of their existing passport after they get selected as eligible students to participate in the program.

Yes as long as you have a GPA of 2.20  for Bachelor's and 2.50 for Master's you can attend in an Erasmus+ Exchange.

For a student to be able to do an exchange, they need to be a full time student*. For a student to be able to do their needed work for their diploma/degree a student should take 60 ECTS per year (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, ECTS), 30 ECTS per semester for a 2-semester academic year and 20 ECTS per semester for a 3- semester academic year.

Yes you can, regarding Erasmus Student Exchange Program or Erasmus Internship Program, students can receive mobility grants only for 12 months in total, for each level of education (undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate). However students, who completed 12 months at a level, can participate in Erasmus Exchange program for more than once. If the student participated in Erasmus Exchange program at a level of higher education with grant, that student can participate in the Erasmus Exchange program at the same level again, on the condition of getting approval by the Faculty. If the student received mobility grants for Erasmus Internship Program, (s)he can also receive mobility grants for Erasmus Exchange Program, as well. This means, students can receive mobility grants for 12 months in total for each of the Erasmus programs (Erasmus Exchange or Erasmus Placement), at each level.

These documents should be submitted to BİLGİ units: Official transcript and credit transfer form to Student Affairs Office, one copy of transcript, Participation Certificate and Learning Agreement (After Mobility part) should be submitted to Erasmus Office, 2nd OLS Exam and Final Report must be completed via internet.

All courses completed by our students who go to Erasmus Education programs are transferred to İstanbul Bilgi University along with their credits and transcribed. The students who participate in the mobility are given the Diploma Supplement certificate showing the courses and grades they have taken abroad when they graduate.

You can extend the mobility if you are going in the fall, but unfortunately this is not possible if you are going in the spring. For this, you should follow the “Extension Announcement” to be made by Erasmus Office, and you should request an extension within the rules and application dates specified in this announcement. The granting of extensions is not guaranteed.

Students will be able to transfer the language courses offered with ECTS credits to BİLGİ, usually as full list electives. What are the documents I have to prepare before I go abroad for my exchange period?

Students may change their courses in the Learning Agreement during the "add / drop" periods of the host universities and within 4-7 weeks after the start of the semester. The Mobility Agreement (During Mobility) must be completed for this purpose.

Host universities will provide course catalogs on their websites or e-mail incoming students information onavailable courses. Students will select their courses and prepare their Learning Agreements with the help ofthe Erasmus Department Coordinators at BİLGİ.

The host university is not obliged to provide accommodation for international students, but most will reserve dorm rooms, if students apply within deadlines or provide information on off-campus housing.

Students must buy health insurance before their departure to the host country.

Students are required to submit their own visa and residence permit applications. If necessary, the Erasmus Office may issue some documents to facilitate applications, but the control of visa procedures and the process follow-up depend on the student. The most clear and precise information about the process should be obtained from the visa company or consulate responsible for the country of destination, not our office.

Students are expected to provide sufficient funds. Some countries are more expensive than others. Student advisors at the Erasmus Office may counsel students on living expenses in various countries. One should bear in mind that Erasmus exchange students may receive mobility grants to meet around half of their monthlyliving expenses. These mobility grants encompass EU participating countries; Switzerland, however is excluded from mobility grants this year.

Students have to pay tuition fees to BİLGİ, but not to the host university in all of the exchange programs. Studentson ÖSYM scholarships, who are exempt from BİLGİ tuition fees, will still be exempt from BİLGİ tuition feeswhile on exchange. However, partner university may ask for certain fees such as membership to clubs, use of facilities, campus tax, etc.

Students may list their preferences on their application forms. Student Selection Committee will consider theirpreferences.

Students do not need to speak the language of the host country. However some universities might require A1 or A2 level language proficiency of the language f the country. Most of the partner universities offer courses in English for international students. Students can consult their Department Erasmus Coordinators at BİLGİ andcheck the website of the partner universities for their language of instruction and courses in English. But, it isan advantage to speak the language of the host country in the selection process. It is also possible to improveor learn the native language while on exchange.

Yes, students can go on exchange with either of their major department's agreements. Students cannot go on exchange using the agreements of their "minor".

Students can transfer successfully completed courses abroad based on their equivalence to BİLGİ courses.Students going on exchange in their 3rd year can complete their course requirements for graduation in their last year and graduate on time.

Erasmus Student Exchange takes place with partner universities in the EUMember States. Erasmus students may receive mobility grants providedby the EU to partially meet living expenses while on exchange. Grant allocation is decided in accordance with the budget that will be allocated to our university by Turkish National Agency for each year. Every student may not receive grant. Bilateral Student Exchange refers to exchange programs with partneruniversities in North America or elsewhere in the world. In this exchangeprogram, students must cover all their expenses other than tuition.
